About the department

The Department of Geography is an integral part of the structure of a higher professional educational institution, conducting educational, scientific-methodological and educational work among students and teachers. The teachers of the department teach geography at various faculties. The Department of Geography trains specialists in the following specialties:

The number of teachers and lecturers of the department reaches 23 people. The scientific research issues of the department are the placement and development of productive forces in the Khatlon region.

Department history

This department was established on February 2, 2004 on the basis of the Faculty of Economics. The purpose of the department is to train specialists in the field of geography in schools of the republic. The first head of the department was the candidate of pedagogical sciences Majidova K., who headed it for a long time. At the same time, other teachers such as Sharifova F., Barotov J., Murodova N. and Jumaev T., Saidahmadova D. have taken the position of head of the department.

In 2011, the position of head of the department was held by the candidate of geographical sciences Saidahmadova D.L. Since 2012, the position of head of the department has been entrusted to the candidate of geographical sciences Barotov J.K. During its nine-year activity, the department has achieved a number of significant achievements. In particular, the department has new geographical, tourist and demographic books, maps in the Tajik language. Currently, the number of employees of the department reaches 16 people. Of these, 1 is a candidate of science, 5 are senior lecturers, and 9 are assistants.

The activities of the circle and the seminar of the department

The department has a club called “Geographers – Young Travelers”. It has 20 students as members. There is a work plan and a list of members. The club is held twice a month (on Fridays). Students who are interested in geography and tourism are invited to the club.

The club is headed by Assistant Amirkhan Sharifkhan. The club discusses important issues of geography and tourism. In 2020, the club held 14 meetings. All topics are relevant. The club’s work is available on the social network “Facebook”.

Club members actively participate in city, regional and republican competitions. Students actively participate in scientific events at the department, faculty and university levels. They also actively participate in regional, republican and international competitions.
