The faculty of foreign philology was established on the basis of the former faculty of Russian language and literature in August 2002. From its earliest days, the faculty of foreign philology has been successfully supported by distinguished faculty members, including candidates of philological sciences and associate professors Kankova Irina Pavlovna and Mamadrasulova Tojinisso; candidate of pedagogical sciences and associate professors Talbakov Kurbon Chillaevich, Samariddinov Kurbon head of department, V.I. Bogasova, M.S. Saidamirova, T.A. Saifuddinova, Z. Mirzoev, S. Zaurov, M.T. Menlashev, F.A. Menlasheva, Sh. Rahimov, R. Safarova, U. Sobirova, I.D. Isoeva, Murodov Gayratali, Sharipov Amrokhon, Yatimova Ranohon and Sharif Murodov, among others.
For over 24 years, the faculty of foreign philology (formerly the faculty of foreign languages) has been the only center for training highly qualified specialists in the field of foreign language teaching in the Kulob region and is considered one of the best centers in the republic.
The first dean of the faculty of foreign philology at the State Pedagogical University was the late PhD in Pedagogical Sciences and Associate Professor Talbakov Kurbon Chillaevich (from 2002 to 2006), who contributed greatly to the development of the faculty.
At its founding, the faculty consisted only of the English language major and the English department, which at that time employed 10 faculty members. Among the faculty were two candidates, two senior lecturers, and six assistants.
Due to the demands of the times and the availability of material and technical conditions, in 2015, the faculty created new specializations: 1-02030601 — "English-German language" and 1-020307 — "English-Chinese language":
Currently, the faculty has three departments with three specializations at the undergraduate level, one at the master's level — specialization 1-02-04-03 — "English language", and one at the doctoral level — specialization 6D02.1300 "Linguistics":

The faculty is responsible for awarding these degrees. The faculty of foreign philology and its faculty strive to improve the quality of education and student training and prepare highly qualified specialists in the field of foreign language teaching. The faculty trains specialists in the following specialties:
1-020306 "English Language"
Graduates of this specialty can work as English teachers in secondary, primary, and secondary vocational schools and universities. Upon graduation, they receive a bachelor's degree in "English Language."
1-02030601 "English-German"
Graduates of this program can work as English and German teachers in secondary, primary, and secondary vocational schools, and universities. Upon graduation, they receive a Bachelor's degree in English.
1-020307 "English-Chinese"
Graduates of this program can work as English and Chinese teachers in secondary, primary, and secondary vocational schools, and universities. Upon graduation, they receive a Bachelor's degree in English.

Department of comparative linguistics and typology
The department of comparative linguistics and typology was established by Order No. 177 of the rector of Abuabdulloh Rudaki, Kulob State University on October 2, 2020. The department trains specialists in the English language (1-1-020306-01), English-German languages (1-1-020306-01), and English-Chinese languages (1-1-020306-01). The department has 18 faculty members teaching students in specialized subjects, including three candidates of philological sciences, five senior lecturers, nine assistants, and one department administrator. The head of the department is Fayziddin Jamil Davlatzoda associate professor.
Department of Foreign Language Teaching Methodology
Several experienced and professional leaders have served in the department of foreign language teaching methodology throughout its history. The department of foreign language teaching methodology began its work after the establishment of the faculty in 2005. Over time, due to a shortage of faculty with higher education, the Council of Academicians of Abuabdullohi Rudaki Kulob State University decided to merge it with the department of English (now the department of comparative linguistics and typology) and rename it the department of foreign languages and teaching methodology. Taking into account the needs and the emergence of new faculty, the department was separated and renamed the department of foreign language teaching methodology by order No. 177 of the Rector of Abuabdulloh Rudaki Kulob State University dated October 2, 2020. B. R. Murodov, candidates of philological sciences, became the first director after the merger in 2020. In 2021, due to personnel changes at the faculty, his position was transferred to K. A. Sharipov, candidates of pedagogical sciences, for four months (from September to December 2021). Since 2024, A. Robiya has been the head of the department of foreign language teaching methodology, organizing the department's work to effectively improve the qualifications and knowledge of students.
Department of Foreign Languages
The department of foreign languages has existed since 1967 and has been operating since April 9, 2018, by order of the rector of Abuabdulloh Rudaki Kulob State University as a division of the faculty of foreign philology. Department members contribute productively to the training of highly qualified foreign language teachers. In the 2025-2026 academic year, the Department of foreign languages employs 19 faculty members. All department members are full-time employees. As a result, three candidates of philological sciences, two candidates of pedagogical sciences, five senior lecturers, eight assistants, and one department head were recruited for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Currently, the department of foreign languages is a division of the faculty of foreign philology and is operational. The head of the department is Jamolbii Habibullo, a candidate of pedagogical sciences and senior lecturer.
The faculty of foreign philology was established as an independent structure in August 2002 through the initiative and visionary efforts of esteemed faculty members: Candidate of Philological Sciences and Associate Professor I.P. Kankova, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences and Associate Professor T. Kurbonov, Senior Lecturer M. Saidamirova, U. Sobirova, G. Murodov, A. Sharifov, and others. Despite difficult living and working conditions during the Civil War in the Republic of Tajikistan, these faculty members contributed to the development of education and student training, as well as to the revival of a new specialized school in foreign philology in Kulob. The English department became the foundation of the faculty in its founding year, and at that time, it employed 10 faculty members, including two Candidates of Sciences, two senior lecturers, and six assistants. Over the years, the faculty was headed by outstanding individuals. The faculty has included top faculty members, including Associate Professor Irina Pavlovna Kankova, candidate of philological sciences Mamadrasulova Tojinisso, as well as senior lecturers Saidamirova Mukaddas Saidaliyevna, Nikalaevna Tatyana Saifudinova, and Sobirova Ugulbi Sadulloevna. The department also includes experienced faculty members, including Murodov Gayratali, Sharipov Amrokhon, and Yatimova Ranokhon. Several experienced faculty members have also served as experienced and professional administrators.
