FACULTIES» Chemistry and Biology

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Faculty of Chemistry and Biology began its work on April 6, 1993, with the reorganization of the departments, specialties, and educational groups within its subordinate division.

In line with the needs of the times, the standards of higher professional education and the faculty's curricula were improved, and a gradual transition to a credit-based education system and a three-tier system of study (bachelor's, master's, and doctoral) was implemented.

The new state educational standards for higher professional education in the specialties covered by the faculty, adopted in 2011, and the new curriculum for 2014 were completely revised and approved by the Academic Council of Abuabdulloh Rudaki Kulob State University and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan. Currently, the faculty trains specialists in the following specialties: chemistry-biology, chemistry-ecology, biology-ecology, and biotechnology, in full-time and distance learning.

  1. Chemistry-Biology – it is worth noting that the faculty has enrolled 220 full-time and part-time students in this specialty on a state-funded basis and 180 on a contract basis, who may become future specialists in the teaching and medical fields.
  2. Chemistry-Ecology is one of the specialties that plays a very important role today in preserving the environment and instilling in students a sense of patriotism towards nature. Therefore, the faculty has over 160 students studying in this specialty on a state-funded and contract basis.
  3. Biology-Ecology is one of the specialties in which 234 students are studying at the faculty on state-funded and contract programs, and in the future, they may become teachers in the fields of chemistry and ecology.
  4. Biotechnology is a specialty that will make a significant contribution to modern society in the field of preparation and analysis of all types of food products, building materials, textiles, and pharmaceuticals.

This specialty can prepare specialists for the technological field of the future. Currently, 80 students are enrolled in this specialty on a state-funded contract basis.

  1. Chemistry by field - analytical chemistry - is a specialty within the branch of chemistry that deals with the analysis, determination, and study of the composition of substances.

This specialty teaches the components of a substance (qualitative analysis); the amounts of each component present (quantitative analysis); and how to conduct analysis using modern and classical methods.

Specialty Features:

Analytical chemistry is a specialty that relies on precision and scientific calculations; it requires laboratory skills and equipment; and it is widely used in various fields (medicine, ecology, industry).

The main goal of studying analytical chemistry is to prepare students to determine the composition and quantity of substances using scientific and precise methods, which is of great importance in science, medicine, and industry.

The faculty's specialties are modern, formed in 2010 from the former Faculty of Chemistry, Biology, and Geography, based on the needs of the regional and national labor markets. It should be noted that full-time education is organized on a credit-based system, while part-time education follows the traditional system

Department of Chemistry and Teaching Methods

The Department of Chemistry and Teaching Methods is an integral part of the higher professional educational institution and provides educational and methodological support to students and faculty. Faculty members teach classes in various departments across the department's disciplines. Тhe Department of Chemistry and Teaching Methods employed 18 faculty and staff members, one of whom was an external employee.

Department of Biology and Teaching Methods

The Department of Biology and Teaching Methods is an integral part of the higher professional educational institution and provides educational, scientific, and methodological support to students and faculty. Faculty members teach classes in various departments across the department's disciplines. The department employs 31 faculty members engaged in research, education, and teaching. Of these, 3 are doctors of science, professors (1 doctor of science, professor, full-time employee, 2 doctors of science, professor, part-time employee), 7 candidates of science, associate professors, 6 senior lecturers, full-time employees and 21 assistants.

HISTORY OF THE FACULTY

The Faculty of Chemistry and Biology was established in 1993 on the basis of the Faculty of Medicine. In its first year, the faculty established the specialties of biology and biological chemistry. It is with pride that I note that over 31 years, the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology has trained more than 5,000 specialists. Most of them, working in research institutes, universities, medical institutions, sanitary and epidemiological centers, and other sectors of the republic's economy, have made a significant contribution to the development of biological science. This is confirmed by the following graduates of the faculty: Doctor of Biological Sciences, Director of the Khatlon Scientific Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan M.T. Boboev; Director of the E.N. Pavlovsky Institute of Zoology and Parasitology, Candidate of Biological Sciences F.R. Khakimzoda (2016-2024); Director of the E.N. Pavlovsky Institute of Zoology and Parasitology, Candidate of Biological Sciences D.A. Kadamzoda (2024 to the present), director of the Khutalon Nursery, candidate of biological sciences, Amirov Z.G.

The faculty includes the dean, associate professor Jurazoda Sh.J., deputy dean for education Bobozoda B., deputy dean for the correspondence department Imomov Z.R., deputy dean for educational work Tashrifi Sh.O., faculty dispatcher Davronova M., chairman of the trade union, head of the educational institution Azizkhudzhazoda S.A., chairman of the women's council Sharipova B.N.

On February 9, 2012, the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology merged with the Faculty of Geography and was renamed the Faculty of Chemistry, Biology, and Geography. During this period, the faculty comprised three departments: Chemistry, Biology, and Tourism Geography. Since 2022, following the integration of the Tourism Geography Department into the Faculty of Economics and Management, the Faculty of Chemistry, Biology, and Geography has once again operated independently under its original name—Chemistry and Biology. It is worth noting that various specializations have been gradually created within the faculty, including Chemistry-Biology, Chemistry-Ecology, Biology-Ecology, and Biology (Biotechnology), and specialists are currently being trained in these specializations.

At different periods of time, the faculty was headed by famous people and worthy scientists who made a significant contribution to its development: senior lecturer Khafizov S. (1993-1996), Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Mirzoev S.S. (1996-2005, 2007-2009), Ph.D. in Chemistry, Associate Professor Kholikov S.S. (2005-2007), senior lecturer Khudoyorov K. (2009), Ph.D. Kimov R. (2009-2012), Ph.D. in Pedagogical Sciences Saidakhmadova D.L. (2012-2015), senior lecturer Kullaev Sh.Dzh. (2015-2016), senior lecturer Boboev S. (2016-2017), senior lecturer Boboev B.Dzh. (2017-2019), Ph.D. in Sociology. Associate Professor Isufov D.S. (2019-2025) and Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Jurazoda Shokhmurod Jura, have held the position of Dean of the Faculty since June 2025

Currently, 45 faculty members work in the faculty's two departments, including four doctors of science (professors) and nine candidates of science (associate professors), who are engaged in teaching and training students, as well as conducting research. From the faculty's first year until 2022, students studied in three departments, and now in two (Chemistry and Teaching Methods, Biology and Teaching Methods), both in person and remotely.

The faculty collaborates with existing departments in training specialists, as well as with countries such as Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Belarus, and within the country with the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, all research institutes of Tajikistan, universities and institutes, etc. Facilities for conducting summer educational internships in botany and zoology have been created: "Istiklol" (located in the Muminobod district) and the "Khatlon Scientific Center" (located in the city of Kulob).

Students demonstrated excellent results in art groups and university-wide competitions held during celebrations, and were recognized as the best group at the university. The faculty's Academic Council, whose membership is approved annually by the university rector, plays a decisive role in addressing the most important issues facing the faculty.

Since its inception, one of the faculty's most important activities has been scientific research. In addition to teaching and pedagogical work, faculty members are also seriously involved in research. This is a priority for the university and faculty leadership in the development of highly qualified research and teaching specialists.

Currently, the faculty conducts highly complex scientific research in two areas, involving faculty and the direct participation of doctoral students, graduate students, interns, and undergraduates. The faculty's Research and Information Center brings together student clubs. In recent years, the faculty's Student Science Club has been headed by Senior Lecturer Sh. O. Tashrifi.

In connection with the announcement of the "Twenty Years of Studying and Developing Natural, Exact, and Mathematical Sciences in Science and Education" program for 2020-2040 and the national "Science-Education" competition, six new modern laboratories and classrooms were built and commissioned at the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology. These laboratories and classrooms are named after outstanding faculty members who have dedicated themselves to science and education for many years, including Associate Professor Tillo Boboev, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor S. S. Mirzoev, and Senior Lecturer S. B. Khafizova.
